Zulum’s commissioner dies in his sleep barely a month after assuming office

Borno State newly-appointed Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engr. Ibrahim Idris has died.


According to reports, he died in his sleep on Thursday night, October 20, 2023, at his guest house in the 777 Housing Estate, Maiduguri.

The cause of his death is still unknown, but some sources said the young commissioner, who also served as Special Adviser on Projects Monitoring, is suspected to have died from a heart attack, while others said he may have been poisoned.

His remains were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.

Idris was one of the 17 new commissioners sworn in on August 10, 2023, by Governor Babangana Umara Zulum to constitute the state executive council for the ongoing second term which began on May 29, 2023.

Aside from commissioners, three (3) chief advisers to the governor and one permanent secretary were sworn-in at the multipurpose hall of the government house in Maiduguri, during a ceremony in which the Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zannah, administered the oaths of office.

“I am indeed very delighted to stand before you

today on this auspicious and the finest moment of our political history as we converge for the swearing-in ceremony of Honourable Commissioners who are members of Borno State Executive Council that will assist me in discharging the mantle of leadership during my second term as Executive Governor of our great state of Borno”, Zulum said.
