Two people have been killed as bandits attacked a mosque at Sabon Layi, Kakangi Ward in Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna State.

According to reports, many other worshippers were injured during the attack at the Ga Allah Babba area of the Sabon Layi community on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

It was said that the Imam of the mosque and one other worshipper were those killed by the terrorists.

The Kaduna Police Command was yet to react to the incident as at the time of this report.

However, a source said the Imam of the mosque, Malam Mamuda and one Kabiru were killed when the hoodlums opened fire on the worshipers, while Bilya Mairabo and Ashiru Mairabo were injured.

Chairman of Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Maigwari in a statement, explained that “almost on a daily basis, terrorists are on patrol across the entire Birnin-Gwari local government area, killing and abducting innocent citizens.

“The situation is more worrisome on the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway and has become a nightmare for travellers,” he added.

In a related development, suspected killers have allegedly strangled a businesswoman, Madam Juliana Dimaka, to death in her home in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

A source in Eket, on Tuesday, said that the businesswoman was murdered on October 17, 2023, after several failed previous attempts on her life.

“The murder was carried out at the residence of the deceased at Etebom Avenue, Eket by yet-to-be-identified killers.

“They gained entrance into the residence and strangled her to death, the source who did not want his name published said.

He explained that the incident happened at 8.00pm on the ill-fated day, adding that since then her shopping plaza on Grace Bill Road in Eket had been closed.

A reliable police source at the Eket Divisional Police headquarters, who is not authorised to speak to the media, confirmed the incident.

However, when contacted for confirmation, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP MacDon Odiko, said that he had not been briefed on the incident.

“I cannot say anything about it. I do not have the facts, I have to cross check the facts,” Odiko said.
