The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s certificate saga has further worsened Nigeria’s “less than glorious image” in the world.

Obi spoke during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The former Anambra State governor said: “To the outsiders, the entire Chicago University matter, as well as Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s many other lingering identity, question marks have further worsened Nigeria’s less than glorious image internationally.

“Uninformed outsiders now see every Nigerian as a fraudster, certificate forger, or identity thief. The controversy is unnecessary, and the implicit global embarrassment could have been avoided.”

Obi called on Tinubu to save Nigeria from embarrassment by revealing his true identity.

He said: “Tinubu should humbly and respectfully reveal his identity. Let the world know your name, nationality, certificates.

“You should indicate clearly where you did your NYSC. If there was change of name, make it clear. The task is for Tinubu to urgently reveal his identity. People want to know your true identity. A leader cannot leave his identity to be revealed by proxies.”

Recall that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had secured release of Tinubu’s education records from Chicago State University (CSU) through a court subpoena.

The released records, which came first on October 3, showed that the CSU certificate Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was different from samples of the certificates the university issued to students that same year.

Atiku, on Thursday, October 5, 2023, addressed a world press conference on the certificate saga.
