Man reveals amount his in-laws demanded for bride price due to their daughter’s education

A Nigerian man found himself paying an exorbitant N1.5 million as a bride price and an additional N60,000 to obtain the marriage item list.

The story unfolded on Saturday, October 28, when a Nigerian lady took to social media to share the eye-popping events surrounding her cousin’s marriage negotiations.

She disclosed that her cousin, a Medical Doctor and Surgeon by profession, was required to pay N1.5 million as bride price and an additional N60,000 to obtain the list of marriage items he needed to purchase.

The bride’s family defended the high bride price by emphasizing their daughter’s status as a “graduate”.

The substantial bride price, which amounted to approximately N1.5 million left many social media users in shock.

“Today, my cousin paid 1.5 million as bride price and 60k to collect the list plus the things on the list. The girl’s family said it’s 1.5 million because she’s a ‘graduate.’ My cousin is a Medical Doctor/Surgeon, but oh well! It doesn’t matter to them,” the post read.
