The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State, has suspended the party’s chairman in Roni Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement signed by the State chairman, Hon. Aminu Sani Gumel.

Saleh Idris, 56, was arrested for allegedly raping his housegirl.

According to the statement, “Following the allegation of rape and impregnation of minor and the outcome of preliminary investigation of the state chapter, the party has come up with the following resolutions:

“That your act contravened section 21.2 (viii) and (x) of the APC 2022 Constitution as amended and that there is a need for further investigations.”

The statement said given these, the State APC has suspended the party chairman pending the outcome of the investigation.

The party ordered him to hand over its affairs to the local government’s vice chairman.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, confirmed the arrest of Saleh Idris.

Spokesman of the Jigawa State Command of the NSCDC, CSC Adamu Shehu said in a statement that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 18, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother that the suspect raped and impregnated his 14-year-old sister who was a house-help at the suspect’s residence.

According to a report by the victim’s brother, “the case was reported at NSCDC Roni LGA Division after a failed agreement reached at the Hisba office on taking responsibility. Instead he was pressuring the family to abort the pregnancy.

“The victim’s first encounter with the suspect was when the suspect offered her a drink when his wife was not at home which made her lose consciousness and he had carnal knowledge of her.

“When the victim regained her consciousness, he threatened her not to tell anyone or risk losing her monthly allowances and as a result, the ugly trend continued repeatedly without her telling anyone until pregnancy surfaced.”

CSC Adamu said upon interrogation, the suspect denied the allegation and the case has been taken to court.

He said the case is contrary to section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of Jigawa State and is punishable under the same Act.
