FCT command reacts to viral audio of man alerting residents of the new method criminals use to rob people
The FCT police command has reacted to a viral audio of a man alerting residents of the FCT about criminals who move around in vehicles with foreign plate numbers to rob and kidnap residents of the area.
In the viral audio, the man who gave his name as West Robinson said;
‘’The Road Safety and VIO are not doing anything about it. It is like that in Nigeria until they strike before they will now start checking these guys. These guys are borno guys. Most of the taxi drivers in Area 1 are from Borno. What they do is that behind their vehicle they put foreign plate number and in the front of the taxi they have Nigerian plate number.
So when they strike, when they rob or kidnap you, you will not be able to trace the number of that vehicle. These guys run from Area 1 to Berger, from Area 1 to Area 10. They run Lugbe too. They also run Apo mechanic village.”
He said the assailants have no known addresses as most of them sleep in their taxis.
Reacting to the viral audio, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, DSP Josephine Adeh, said the command is aware of the audio and asked residents to discontinue spreading it as it is creating panic and apprehension in the populace.
She went on to disclose that there’s an ongoing clampdown on the described vehicles (vehicles with foreign number plates) in the narrative. She said the command is committed to improving the overall security towards the protection of lives and properties of residents without fear or favor.
She stated that the CP enjoins the good people of the territory to be vigilant and take advantage of the Police emergency lines in reporting suspicious activities: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883,
