“Nigerian police don dey work ooo” – Imo residents hail NPF for swiftly intercepting robbers attacking jewelry shop
Residents of Imo state police command in preventing a potentially disastrous incident at a jewelry shop located in the Ikeneagbu area.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 29, saw the police foil the attack by a gang of armed assailants.
According to the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, the assailants, numbering about seven, were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, and some of them even donned military apparel.
They arrived at the scene in a white Hilux vehicle with a covered license plate.
’On the receipt of this information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, psc(+), promptly mobilized the Command’s Tactical team and personally led the operatives to the scene.
On sighting police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire but were overwhelmed by the dexterity showcased by the gallant operatives who professionally maneuvered into vintage position and return fire which forced the hoodlums to succumb to their superior fire power. In the gun duel that ensued, one of the hoodlum was neutralized, two were arrested while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.’‘ Okoye said.
The police search of the criminals’ belongings led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, four locally made pistols, eight rounds of live cartridges, one expanded cartridge, and various stolen jewelry valued at millions of naira.
Additionally, the white Hilux used by the assailants was found to have a registered number plate BRR 586 XA, which had been concealed with a black cloth.
Fortunately, due to the swift and decisive action of the police, none of the shop owners or customers were injured during the robbery attempt.
’Manhunt is intensified to arrest other fleeing suspects and the manufacturers of the locally made pistols. The duo suspect will be investigated thoroughly and arraigned in court upon completion of a discreet investigation by the Command’s Tactical Team. While the body of neutralizes suspect will be deposited at the morgue.” he said.
In the aftermath of the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their exceptional bravery and urged them to continue the fight against all forms of crime and criminality in the state. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Imo State for their unwavering support and cooperation with the police.
The Commissioner further urged citizens, particularly owners of hospitals and first aid outlets, to promptly report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines, 08034773600 or 08098880197.
A video circulating online shows Imo State residents hailing the police officers involved in the operation, celebrating their bravery and dedication in apprehending some of the suspects and neutralizing others.
