Lionel Messi reacts after breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record
Former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi has reacted to one of his latest achievements of breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s top 5 European scoring record.
The Argentine said the record matters a bit to him after he scored his 496th goal in top five European leagues, breaking Ronaldo’s record.
Messi scored in PSG’s 1-1 draw at Strasbourg to help PSG win yet another Ligue 1 trophy and it was his 17th goal of the campaign which allowed him to pass Ronaldo.
Ronaldo headed off to Saudi Arabia in the January transfer window with 495 goals scored in the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A.
Messi is now heading to the US Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami.
The Argentine was asked whether breaking Ronaldo’s record mattered to him.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner told beIN Sport,
“No, just a little bit. As I said before, at this stage of my career, I don’t focus on that anymore.
“I focus on what I was able to achieve with Argentina and the club level where I was lucky enough to win important titles like the UCL or Club World Cup, leagues, cups.
“I was lucky enough to win everything, and that’s really what will remain at the end of my career.
“Of course, you have the goals and records, but, I think, they are secondary apart from the fact that they are nice recognitions.”
