“I’m a High Chief for a reason, Igbo Kwenu” – Pete Edochie reacts to controversy trailing his handshake with Ooni of Ife
Nollywood Veteran, Pete Edochie, has reacted to the controversy surrounding the handshake he gave the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
In a now-viral video, Edochie and Kanayo O Kanayo had arrived at the venue of Elizabeth Jack Rich’s 40th birthday party and walked towards the Yoruba monarch’s table to exchange pleasantries with him.
The actors gave the traditional ruler the popular Igbo backhand handshakes which the Ooni accepted; with smiles etched on their faces.
Some netizens believe Pete and Kanayo ought to have bowed to the Ooni, a first-class monarch, in the traditional Yoruba way.
A Twitter user who found this disrespectful to the monarch, took to the micro-blogging platform to call out Pete Edochie, tagging his action wrong.
Tweep wrote;
“This is worth but I won’t stress it… I let it slide!”.
Coming to Pete Edochie’s defense, Entrepreneur, Sommy Keshi, questioned why a titled Chief like Pete Edochie would bow to the Ooni.
He wrote, “High Chief for a reason, Igbo Kwenu”
Reacting, Pete, took his Instagram story, shared Sommy Keshi’s response to the Twitter user who dragged him.
