“I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015” – President Buhari says as he gives his farewell speech

President Buhari this morning gave his farewell speech to Nigerians.


The President who will be handing over power to Bola Tinubu on Monday, May 29, said he is confident he leaving office with Nigeria better than it was in 2015 when he assumed office. He also expressed fulfilment in his performance so far as he retires home to Daura, Katsina State, after handing over to his successor, Bola Tinubu, on Monday.

“I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015,” Buhari said

He took time out to thank Nigerians who prayed for him during his illness in his first tenure office.

The President also stated that he took some hard-hitting decisions that were for the “overall good of the country.”

“In the course of revamping the economy, we made some difficult choices, most of which yielded the desired results. Some of the measures led to temporary pain and suffering for which I sincerely apologized to my fellow countrymen, but the measures were taken for the overall good of the country.”

On the 2023 general elections, President Buhari appealed to all those contesting the outcome of the elections to accept the rulings delivered by the courts. He praised his successor, Bola Tinubu, and said that he was the best candidate during the presidential election.
