Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Gov Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that many factors contributed to the sweeping victory of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones in the 2023 presidential election..

According to Okowa, ‘Obidients’ movement swept across the South-South and South-East and people wanted Peter Obi for a change.

Okowa, who is also the governor of Delta State, said this on Monday in Asaba while reacting to the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.

He said, “A lot of factors contributed to the sweeping victory of Obi in South-South and South-East.

“The agitation that the presidency should come to the southern part of the country, religion and Igbo presidency are key factors.

“Obidients movement is a movement that swept across the South-South and South-East. The people wanted Obi as a change. They believed it is turn of South-East.

“I believe that people have exercised their rights in a democratic process but INEC did not follow Electoral Act”.

On whether he has been in talks with former Governor James Ibori over affairs of the PDP in the state, Okowa said, “It is private for us as politicians and I can’t disclose our discussions to you.”

On Ibori supporting the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Okowa said, “For him to support the APC candidate, it is his choice.”

Okowa stated that he stands for Sheriff Oborevwori who emerged from a democratic process of the PDP primary.

He explained that he had fulfilled the promises made to Deltans in 2015, noting that over 2,000 kilometres of road and over 1,000 km of drainages had been constructed across the state including in the riverine areas.

“Continuity is something that works in Delta, so if I cannot finish them, I believe the incoming administration will continue where I stopped.

“It is unfortunate that everybody is aspiring to be governor of the state and keep lying to Deltans. Today, Omo-Agege is sitting at the floor of the House approving loans for FG.

“He does not have the moral justification to accuse my administration. Every loan we collected followed due process and was tied to projects,” Okowa added
