“My husband wants me to donate my kidney to his ailing mum” – Nigerian woman seek advice
A 25-year-old Nigerian woman identified as Folake has shared the conundrum she is in regarding her husband’s ailing mother.
She said her 35-year-old hubby pleaded with her to donate her kidney to his mother because it matches with hers.
But the lady expressed worry that she is too young to give up such a vital organ irrespective of the relationship she has with the receiver.
Folake took to social media to seek advice as to whether her reluctance to give up her kidney is a bad choice.
She said;
“I am 25 years old. Married to a man of 35years. We have been married for more than 2years with a child. The issue that brought me here is that my mother in law is sick (kidney problem) and it happens that mine matches her.
My husband is begging me to donate one of my kidney to save his mom. He said he loves his mom so much and will not want anything to happen to her. That if love him as I claim, now is time to prove it. I refused.
How can a young girl like me that is just starting life donate a kidney to an old woman of 48years. Even if the person is my mum, she won’t even allow me to donate for her. Now hubby is acting up. Saying if anything happens to her mum, he will never forgive me. Please, am I being wicked?”
In other news, a Nigerian medical doctor has revealed that his narrow escape from an assault influenced his decision to abandon medical practice.
The doctor turned sports analyst recounted how a patient’s family members nearly beat him mercilessly after their daughter died under his watch.
According to the influencer known on Twitter as @Sports_Doctor2, it was a matron that saved him on the night of the incident which happened on a Saturday.
He shared his story in reaction to a report of a medical doctor, Dr. Iluobe who was killed by relatives of a patient who died in his care.
@Sports_Doctor2 wrote; The day I knew I didn’t have a future practicing medicine in Nigeria was the day I was almost beaten by a patient relative in children’s emergency after their daughter died. It took the quick thinking of the matron to use her body as shield to save me that night. What happened? It was a Saturday morning and I was on call in Children’s Emergency.
I arrived my happy self, cracked jokes with the matron on call and did a brief ward round with the consultant, and Senior Register on call. We came to this baby girl that was looking seriously sick. She looked like a skeleton as she was severely malnourished, this also caused her to have severe sepsis(infection). My consultant noticed the antibiotics she was placed on wasn’t working as she was still having fever, changed it and told me to write a referral to Dietitians.
The dietitians came reviewed and wrote out a diet plan for the child. Now if you see the parents of this girl, they both were looking healthy with the father looking like a weight lifter. The mum was told to go get the new drugs outside as it wasn’t available in the hospital. Now from just looking at that child, you would know she’s been sick at home for a long time but her parents didn’t bother to bring her to the hospital up until now her situation is critical.
