An exceptional African girl Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa who bagged her bachelor’s degree at the age of 17 has become the youngest PhD student at a US university.


Ruth was born on 29 May 2004 in Kumasi to Kwadwo Gyan-Darkwa, a senior tutor at Prempeh College in Kumasi and his wife.

In December 2021, Ghana celebrated Ruth after she graduated from the Mathematics department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Prior to her graduation, Ruth was adjudged the youngest person to gain admission into a university in the country at the age of 13 in 2017.

Two years after her first degree, the genius accomplished another stellar achievement by becoming the youngest Masters/PhD student at the University of Mexico at age 18.

She is currently a doctorate student in the department of electrical engineering at a US university and plans to work for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) after she graduates.

Ruth comes from a family of highly intelligent people, her immediate older sister, Grace also graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2018 at the age of 18.
