In other political news, African Action Congress (AAC), presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, says if elected in 2023, he will ensure the minimum wage for Nigerian civil servants is increased to at least N250,000.
The activist stated this while criticising the manifesto of his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi which proposed N80,000 – N100,000 minimum wage.
In a statement via his verified Twitter, Sowore noted that the amount Nigerian workers receive as salary must reflect the cost of living and the purchasing power parity.
He said; “Although they stole this idea from our 2018 campaign, this @NgLabour minimum wage idea is now outdated-The Minimum Wage must reflect the cost of living and the purchasing power parity.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari earlier said his administration has made it difficult for future elections to be rigged in Nigeria.
A statement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said the president stated this while hosting West African Elders Forum Pre-Election Mediation Mission, led by former Sierra Leonean President, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma at the State House, Abuja.
Buhari also said Nigerians are now free to vote for whatever political party or whichever candidate they want in 2023.
The statement was titled “President Buhari to West African Elders: our election will be free, fair, credible.”
He said; “Thank you for accepting to do this service for our sub-region. That right is a guarantee. We are settling down and making progress. People should vote whoever they want, in whatever party. We shall not allow anyone to use money and thugs to intimidate the people.
Nigerians know better now, they are wiser, and know that it is better to dialogue than to carry weapons. Elections are even more difficult to rig now.”
