Man United Remove poster featuring Ronaldo outside Old Trafford

A giant mural outside Old Trafford that includes Cristiano Ronaldo has been taken down by Manchester United..

Ronaldo is seen on the poster alongside some of the club’s iconic No 7s as part of the ‘More than a shirt’ campaign.

But just days after he accused Manchester United of ‘betraying’ him, not believing his reasons for a late return to pre-season, revealing he doesn’t respect manager Erik ten Hag and that the Glazer family do not care about United as a club, the mural has now been removed.

Removal experts were seen taking the giant poster down on Wednesday, just hours before the first part of his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV airs in full.

The poster also featured David Beckham, Bryan Robson and current women’s player and Lionesses star Ella Toone.

Taking to Twitter after a clip emerged of the poster’s removal, Morgan wrote: ‘Wow.. so petty!’

There is growing resentment towards Ronaldo on the back of this interview and many around the club believe he has played his last game for United.

Ronaldo’s team-mates only became aware of the Morgan interview as they flew back to Manchester from London after Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham, their last fixture before the World Cup.

Sportsmail revealed United’s lawyers are exploring ways of sacking Ronaldo, who sees his contract expire in the summer, after he said in the interview he felt betrayed by the club and had no respect for manager Erik ten Hag.

They will watch the full interview, set to be aired on Wednesday and Thursday, and ‘will consider their response after the full facts have been established.’

Another option being considered is for United and Ronaldo to agree to tear up his £500,000-a-week deal so he can leave as a free agent.

Sportsmail revealed Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes met with Bayern Munich last week as he plotted his exit from the club.

United do not welcome fans back to Old Trafford until December 21 when they host Championship high-flyers Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

The front of Old Trafford, above the club shop, will look distinctly different when fans do return with Ronaldo likely to have been airbrushed off much of the signage in and around the ground.
