The Police in Gulu on Saturday (October 29, 2022) confirmed they had arrested lawyer Francesca Amony, who is also a former Gulu LC5 councillor for Pece division after she allegedly stabbed her husband to death.

Aswa Region Police spokesperson David Ongom said in a statement that they identified the victim as Dr James Etuk, a resident of Gulu city and a doctor working in Mbarara district.

Ongom said Amony was detained at Gulu CPS after she reportedly walked into the station and handed herself in after the incident on Friday, October 29, 2022.

Etuk was confirmed dead at the Gulu District Hospital where he had been rushed for medical attention.

“She stabbed her husband on Friday night after the couple developed marital misunderstandings at their home and fought,” Ongom said.

He added that the incident occured at the deceased’s home in Keyi A cell in Kapedong Wars, Bardege Layibi Division in Gulu city.

Ongom said the Police had opened up a case of murder under reference Gulu West SD reference: 17/29/10/2022 and detectives were already investigating the matter.

Friends who spoke to New Vision said it was difficult to try and understand that Etuk had been killed by his wife he loved so much.

“They never publicly complained about each other, but always praised one another. How did it reach to taking away his life?” a friend said.

Ejuk’s love for wife

In June this year Etuk, through social media, heaped praises on his wife saying: “In this life, I couldn’t ask for more you have been there for me through thick and thin. When I was sick, you slept in the hospital without a second thought, through my weaknesses you stood by me and now, you carry my only Son. May God bless you and grant you everything you ever wanted in this Life. I will Love you to my dying day, Atuku. Friends, help me celebrate this heroine: She is my Mother Bear. Happy Heroes day Wife.”

Second charge by the Police

This would not be the first time Amony has been charged by the Police. In 2017, she was arrested on allegations of aggravated torture and charged at the Gulu Magistrates Court after she reportedly tortured two of her maids by burning them with a hot iron after they reportedly stole sh60,000. She was convicted and fined sh1.5m.
