Alhaji Tukur Mamu has broken his silence following his arrest in Egypt..

Mamu is a Kaduna-based publisher, and Kaduna train attack negotiator.

The newspaper publisher was arrested at the Cairo International Airport on Tuesday and is being repatriated back to Nigeria.

Mamu was said to be on his way to Saudi Arabia with his family members for lesser Hajj before he was arrested and detained by Egyptian authorities for 24 hours.

Sharing his encounter with Daily Trust while onboard the plane back to Nigeria, Mamu stated that nothing incriminating was found in his possession and the Egyptian authorities had told him that there was no reason to detain him.

He said: “I was on my way to Cairo-Egypt but my destination was Saudi Arabia for my Umrah alongside some of my family members. I was detained for 24 hours at the Cairo International Airport under the orders of Nigerian Government. I was not harassed at the Nigerian Airport until I got to Cairo when the security officials there told me that they had orders to arrest me by Nigerian Department of State Security (DSS). We were arrested alongside my family members for the whole day at Cairo Airport.”

Speaking further, he said that a flight which would take him and his family back to Kano was already waiting and he is certain that the Department of State Service ( DSS) are already on standby in the airport.

He went on to say that there is no reason for him to be scared of the DSS and he simply wants the truth to be known.

On 28 March 2022, the Abuja–Kaduna train was attacked in Katari, Kaduna State, Nigeria. In response, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) briefly halted operations along the route.
