NURTW leader, Suleman Lawal alias ‘Ariku’ killed in broad daylight as cultists clash in Lagos
The Mile 12 branch chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Suleman Lawal better known as Ariku, has been lynched to death by suspected cult members.
He was murdered after violence broke out on Sunday, August 28, amid the lingering rivalry between cult groups – Aiye and Eiye.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, Ariku was returning to Mile 12 from his home in Ikorodu area of the state when he was shot and beaten to death by cultists.
“He was from Mile 12. He was born and bred there. He was killed at Owode Elede. He was on a bike when he was killed.
“He had two houses. One in Mile 12 and another one in Ikorodu. He was on a bike coming from Ikorodu to Mile12 when the boys attacked him,” the source said.
A video circulating on social media captures the moment the deceased was being lynched by a mob, said to be cult members.
Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident said;
“The command is aware of the violent clash going on at Owode-Elede area of the state. DPO Owode-Onirin is handling the situation. Reinforcement has been readied. We are monitoring the situation.”
