Former Governor Joshua Dariye To Run For Senate After Being Released From Prison
According to the Daily Trust, former governor of Plateau State Joshua Dariye plans to express interest in running for the Labour Party’s (LP) nomination for the Plateau Central senatorial seat..
He was freed from the Kuje prison in Abuja on Monday along with his Taraba counterpart, Jolly Nyame. He had been found guilty of corruption and was currently serving a 14-year term.
Reliable sources told Daily Trust that the Plateau State chapter of the LP has finalized plans to receive Dariye from Abuja to choose the party’s senatorial form.
He had left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party he had been a governor for, and had run on the LP platform in 2011, winning a seat in the Senate.
A Labour Party official, who spoke on anonymity told Daily Trust; “Yes, it is true that he (Dariye) will be running for a Senate seat. We are making arrangements for him to come from Abuja for the senatorial declaration.”
According to the source, the former lawmaker is still well-liked by many people in the state, which gives him the ability to pull off surprises at the polls. The source also stated that Dariye has helped the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Patrick Dakum, who left the ruling All Progressives Congress for the party (APC).
Nigerians were seen celebrating in a recent video that went viral online after Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame were released and brought home.
People were observed crying and giving the former governors a hearty welcome as they exited the cars that had taken them from the prison.
