Singer, Eedris Abdulkareem diagnosed with kidney failure, set to undergo transplant

Nigerian hip-hop legend, Eedris Abdulkareem, has been diagnosed of kidney failure and currently undergoing treatment, his team says.

This was disclosed in a statement released on his Facebook wall on Wednesday by a member of his label, Myke Pam, who said that the “Nigeria Jaga Jaga” crooner needed the prayers of his fans world wide ahead of his kidney transplant surgery slated for late July.

“Nigerian Hip Hop Czar, Soicial Crusader and Rights Activist, Eedris Abdulkareem of “Nigeria Jaga Jaga” fame needs the sincere and unalloyed prayers of all Nigerians and his fans around the world in this hours of his travails.



“The Lakreem Entertainment Inc. boss has recently been diagonized of kidney failure and have been undergoing dialysis since the detection at a reputable hospital here in Lagos, Nigeria.

“The date for the transplant surgery is now fixed for the end of this month of July, and all arrangements and texts have been concluded, including certifying the compatibility status of the gracious donor (a family member),” the statement read.

Mr Pam added that his boss is optimistic about the surgery and in high spirit.

“It’s pertinent to add here that thankfully, Eedris is full of life and in high spirit as he is bustling to go. Definitely, he’s going to come out of this and blaze up the musical stage again in due course. Actually, his spirit emboldens us,” he added.

Mr Abdulkareem made his debut in 1996 with the hip hop band called The Remedies. He left the band to go solo in 2002 and released his first solo album titled “P.A.S.S.”

In 2004, he released his third album which was iced with hit single Jaga Jaga. The song highlighted the then prevailing socioeconomic malaise.

President Olusegun Obasanjo banned the track from radio stations across the country but it enjoyed popularity across night clubs and bars earning it the alias of “Nigeria’s underground national anthem.”
