Rumours that Ambode has defected to Labour Party to contest for 2023 Lagos guber Elections surfaces
Rumours surfaced on social media on Thursday that former Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode has joined Labour Party to contest the 2023 Lagos governorship election..
Ambode served only one term of four years as governor under the All Progressives Congress before falling out with the godfather Bola Tinubu and the party leadership in Lagos who ensured he did not return for a second term and was eventually replaced with current governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Labour Party has become a formidable platform since former Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Peter Obi who enjoys large followership from the majority of Nigerian youths decamped to the party to pursue his dream of becoming Nigeria’s President in 2023.
Though there has been no official confirmation from Ambode or Labour Party to confirm whether the former governor has really joined the party, a lot of youths have been reacting excitedly to the possibility of the news being true.

@TheEagle1000 tweeted: “Ambode should go ahead and pick the labour party guber ticket. So Sanwo Olu will understand it’s not his birthright. If Ambode takes this bold step, then it’s over for Tinubu. Even if he loses, Ambode will join competent team led by Peter Obi to Rule this country come 2023.”
Another tweep @eronsalexander wrote: “Former Governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode‘s decision to join Labour Party should not be laughed off. He is very popular in Lagos East and he will definitely get a lot of the Obidients vote next year…. Stranger things have happened. Winning is another matter.”
@JackObynyan tweeted: “Dear @AkinwunmiAmbode please pick @NgLabour Gubernatorial ticket for Lagos, incase what I’m hearing is not true, do it, e get why!”
@SirDavidBent wrote: “A lot of Lagosians loved Ambode during his tenure. They were also quite unhappy when the Lagos cabal ousted him for not playing party politics. If it’s true that he’s contesting under Labour party, people would vote massively to remove APC from power in Lagos. Sanwo-Olu prepare.”
Omotayo of Lagos tweeted: “If Akinwunmi Ambode should declare to run as Governor under Labour party today, Sanwo Olu will leave his home work in Osun state and return to Lagos before the day runs out.”
