Abortion: It’s a sad day for the court and America – President Biden
United States President, Joe Biden has reacted to Supreme Court’s judgement which overturned a 50-year-old ruling that legalised abortion nationwide..
With this judgement, millions of woman have lost their right to abortion.
The apex court overturned Roe v. Wade on Friday, holding that there is no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion.
Biden, in a reaction after the Supreme Court’s judgement said “It’s a sad day for the court and for the country.”
He described the day as a very solemn moment for the United States.
The American president said that “This decision is a culmination of a deliberate effort over decades to upset the balance of our law.
“It’s a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error by the Supreme Court, in my view.”
“Today is a very solemn moment for the United States. The Supreme Court expressly took away a Constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized.
“They simply took it away. That’s never been done to a right that is so important to so many Americans,” he added.
According to Biden, women’s health in the United States is now at risk after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the constitutional right to an abortion.
He added that there is no unilateral action he could take to restore the nationwide right to an abortion and urged Americans to elect more members of Congress in November who would support legislation protecting access to abortion.
