News about Naomi’s abduction was circulated on Facebook on April 19th just a day after she made her upcoming engagement public.
Acording to FIJ, Naomi’s phone was contacted by her family but her supposed abductors answered, saying they needed no money but just want to eliminate her.
Her friends on social media were said to have started a fundraising scheme on social media in order to raise the ransom for her kidnappers.
the midst of the fundraising, some of her colleagues raised alarm, saying the subject had a criminal record and cannot be trusted, hence news about her abduction might be false.
According to a source close to the FIJ, Usman Baba-Alkali, the Inspector-General of Police, learned of the situation and directed the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to hunt Danlami’s kidnappers.
When the IRT started to work, they discovered that she had been last seen in Nasarawa State.
Danlami suddenly emerged from nowhere on Saturday, claiming she had escaped the kidnapper’s hideout after being assaulted.
She then insisted to return to work immediately as if nothing happened to her. This was said to have raised suspicions among her colleagues and fundraisers.
“We all thought that if she was kidn@pped and mol@sted in addition, the first thing for her to do was go to a hospital for examination and possible treatment, not to show up at work straight away,” the source said.
Naomi was then apprehended by IRT when she went to work and further investigations are ongoing.
