The eyewitnesses at Mission Road, Benin City, have expressed concern after waking up to the corpse of a newly born baby who was dumped in a moat by a suspected couple.

During a recent visit to the scene of the incident, eyewitnesses in Edo State shared details of how the perpetrators carried out their dastardly act.

Speaking with our reporter, an eyewitness said, “I was attending to my business when I heard the news. I ran to the place as nobody was willing to check on the baby.

I opened the package and discovered that it was a female baby. The mother gave birth to the baby yesterday night. I have two children, but I would have adopted the baby if she was alive.

Another eyewitness said, “I am pained that a woman like me carried out this act. I do not think the perpetrator can have kids again. Even God cannot forgive her. Even the devil cannot forgive her.

A security officer in the area said he accosted the perpetrators, but they questioned him.
