Police Have Arrested A Man Who Was Caught Whipping Mother, Son Mercilessly in A Viral Video (Details below)
Three suspects have been detained after they were captured on camera viciously flogging a mother and her son in a video that went viral and sparked global outrage.
The defendants will be arraigned on charges of assault and causing actual bodily harm, according to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, April 19.
Kenyans have reacted angrily to the film, demanding justice for the two victims.
Mama Kwamboka, the mother in the video, had rushed to the help of her son, who was supposed to have made a mistake in the village. The three men, who were identified as clan elders, then started to thrash the boy viciously.
After observing that her son was already unconscious, the mother intervened, but she incurred the wrath of the three guys who fell on her with long sticks.
The terrified lady’s screams could be heard as her attempts to flee were hopeless. The elders apprehended her and continued their onslaught.
The viral video drew the attention of the National Park Service, which later issued a statement confirming that investigations were ongoing.
A clip circulating on social media where an old lady and a young man assumed to be her son are being flogged by an unnamed aggressor has been noted by the National Police Service.
“The cruel act victimizing the two for whatever reason is unjustified, unlawful and cruel NPS joins outraged Kenyans in condemning the uncalled brutality against the two.”
Kenyans should seek suitable conflict resolution means rather than resorting to violence and taking the law into their own hands, according to the police.
“There are legally laid down procedures of settling conflicts between people. The rule of law should always prevail against the rule of the mob in all situations. Our local police are handling the matter. We shall therefore share the outcome of their findings in due course,” the National Police Service stated.
Anger over the occurrence prompted advocate Steve Ogolla to send the family Ksh50,000 in medical aid and offer to represent them in court.
“I’ve talked to Mama Kwamboka, her son Alfred, and eldest daughter Emily Moraa. She reported the matter to Oriwo Police Station in Ringa and obtained an OB Number.”
“She is in great pain but is yet to receive medical treatment. I’ve sent the family Ksh 50K for medical treatment. We shall offer pre-trial legal assistance, and watch brief in the matter to ensure justice is done,” Ogolla posted on his Facebook account.
