Manchester United’s Fred challenging Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes on shock statistic (Details below)

Fred is close to leading the way in goal contributions at Manchester United in the Premier League under Ralf Rangnick.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s continued persistence with Fred in United’s starting XI across his tenure was a source of bemusement for supporters. It meant he became somewhat of a divisive figure, but his reputation has improved under interim boss Rangnick.

Rangnick took over on an interim basis in November and Fred scored the match-winner against Crystal Palace in his first game in charge. The midfielder has been granted more licence to roam forward and his performances have improved – he remains a regular starter at the club and he scored United’s only goal against Leicester last weekend at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian formerly played deeper in the double pivot, but being allowed to get forward under Rangnick has allowed him to get among the goals and new data, released by Opta, highlights the extent of the good work that Fred has been doing.

According to the data, Fred has been directly involved in six goals during his 13 Premier League appearances under Rangnick. That’s bettered in the United squad by only Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have both been involved in one more each.

That’s also more than his tally from his 87 previous top-flight games for United [five].

Fred marked United’s match against Leicester last Saturday with his 100th appearance in the Premier League.
