What Petr Cech told Chelsea squad after Abramovich confirmed sale decision
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has revealed what the club’s technical and performance advisor, Petr Cech, told the Blues squad after owner, Roman Abramovich, confirmed he would be selling the West London club..
Abramovich’s 19-year spell in charge of Chelsea is set to come to an end after he put the club up for sale a few days ago.
The Russian billionaire has rejected bids worth £2 billion for Chelsea in the past, but his stance has changed amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the threat of sanctions.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Burnley on Saturday, Tuchel said Cech gave a ‘briefing’ to the players and coaching staff after their FA Cup win at Luton.
“We had a briefing from Petr after the Luton match,” Tuchel said.
“He gave everyone in the building a quick brief, explained the situation – it was not too much different to what we already knew.
“We have to live with this situation and it does not make sense to worry too much. We don’t have a lot of influence, not to say no influence at all, but that was the bottom line.
“We are allowed to focus on football and we do our best to focus on football. It was not only the team [who Cech spoke to], it was the complete staff.”
Asked for the details of what Cech told Chelsea players and staff, Tuchel added: “It was more about the bottom line that we can allow ourselves to keep on going and do what we did over the last days, focus on sports.
“We are employees and are right now still very privileged. We need to keep going. That was more or less the message.”
