Super Eagles Coaches Left Fuming After EPL Star Arrives a Day Late to Camp Ahead of World Cup Playoffs (Details below)
Emmanuel Dennis arrived a day late to the Super Eagles camp and reports say coach Augustine Eguavoen didn’t like the situation. A member of the coaching staff expressed concerns after Troost-Ekong and Etebo Oghenekaro who also play for Watford arrived early.
Watford forward Dennis was left out of AFCON 2021, but has now joined his team-mates ahead of the World Cup play-offs. Super Eagles handler Augustine Eguavoen was reportedly left furious following the late arrival of Emmanuel Dennis to the camp, Tribal Football reports.
While his two Watford teammates William Troost-Ekong and Oghenekaro Etebo arrived on time, Dennis reported a day after training commenced. The Super Eagles camp was thrown open on Monday, March 21 ahead of the first-leg encounter billed to hold at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Edujandon.com reports that before Dennis finally arrived, an unnamed member of the coaching staff said:
“We don’t know where he is and it’s not a nice way to make up for his acts before the Africa Cup of Nations.
“The deadline is this afternoon before the start of training. We can’t even reach him.
“Eguavoen is unhappy with his absence as we have limited time to meet up with them individually, train, travel and perfect tactics for the game.
“Ekong is here so is Etebo but no word from Dennis.”
Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey also arrived late, but had played games for their clubs at the weekend, unlike Dennis.
The coach added:
“It’s different. Dennis last played a game on the 13th of March which is nine days ago.
“He is returning to the team and he has a lot of image rebuilding to do. He should have been here. We will wait until this evening to make a decision.”
Eyebrows were raised when Dennis did not represent Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Ahmed Musa speaks ahead of first-leg
Sports Brief earlier reported that the captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Ahmed Musa, has disclosed that he and his colleagues will go all out when they face Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Nigeria go head-to-head against Ghana and the winner of the two-legged affair on aggregates will pick one of the five tickets to represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Super Eagles camp has been thrown open at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja and 23 are already in camp ahead of the first leg.
