INTERESTING: Angry IPOB Members Shock Gov. Uzodimma, Says Police, DSS Must Investigate Him To Know Sponsors Of Unknown Gunmen In Imo (Details below)
According to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the attacks on two police stations in Imo state were carried out by a different group. According to Emma Powerful, an IPOB spokesman, the organisation does not have the authority to commit such crimes, as she stated on Tuesday.
IPOB has identified Governor Hope Uzodinma as the politician responsible for the recruitment and arming of unidentified gunmen who have terrorized the South- East region for the past two years. It was his request that security personnel interrogate Uzodinma about the gang’ s roots that received the most attention.
It stated that the attack took place at Umuguma and Omuma stations in Owerri West LGA and Oru East of Imo State, in direct opposition to the lies and false claims made by the government of the state. The charge, which is meant to coerce us and ruin our highly regarded international reputation, has not a speck of reality.
” We have made it clear that IPOB and ESN are not and will never be unidentified gunmen, ” said the group. Those who oppose our struggle have been trying for ways to associate IPOB with criminal acts that are sponsored by Gov. Hope and the APC party in order to demonize the movement.
Saturday saw the continuation of the escalating unrest in Imo State, as seven members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and three security officers were killed, and gunmen set fire to the residence of Governor Hope Uzodinma in the state’ s Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area, according to the state government.
In a raid on the IPOB militia’ s stronghold in Awomama village in Oru, police operatives and their colleagues from the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services allegedly killed one Commander Ikonta and six other members of the group. In what looked to be retaliation, some gunmen invaded Uzodinma’ s apartment in Omuma, approximately 20 kilometers from Awomama, murdering three operatives, including an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and a police officer assigned to the premises, according to reports.
Several hours after the team’ s raid, gunmen reportedly assaulted the rural residence of Uzodinma and killed three security guards who were on duty at the time and put up a fight.
It has been reported that a gun battle broke out between members of the IPOB and a joint security squad in the early hours of Saturday. Commander Ikonta and six other members of the IPOB were alleged to have been killed in the crossfire, while three police officers and a soldier were said to have suffered significant bullet wounds in the incident. According to reports, the operatives also apprehended three other suspects.
To track down the perpetrators of violence in Imo and maintain calm in the state, President Muhammadu Buhari has authorised the deployment of extra security personnel by the Nigerian military. As Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo informed State House media on Monday, following his summons to the Presidential Villa in Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari, he expressed his disappointment with the president’ s decision.
According to the governor, the president has agreed to his request for additional security officers in order to address the state’ s security concerns. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the governor was summoned in the wake of the new attacks in Imo, which targeted the residence of Prof. George Obiozor as well as other law enforcement assets.
Obiozor is the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and a leading voice of moderation in Nigerian politics. He is also a member of the Nigerian parliament. ” The meeting was about insecurity in my state and the South East, ” Uzodinma, who acknowledged that it was about insecurity in his state and the South East, stated.
When asked about his administration’ s efforts to meet with disgruntled parties, he stated that his administration has continued to reach out to unhappy politicians in the state in an effort to carry them along so that they can give their quota to the growth and development of the state.
In a statement, the IPOB’ s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, promised to massively mobilize the people of the South- East against Governor Udom Emmanuel if he fails to release the arrested members within the three- week deadline, noting that the governor will be unable to prevent them from continuing their agitation for regional freedom.
Apart from that, the separatist organization called for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo sociocultural group, as well as South- East leaders and pressure groups from the region, to insist on Uzodinma to release the group’ s arrested members.
In a statement, the group said, ” We urge on the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Igbo religious leaders, civil society groups, and women’ s organizations to caution Hope Uzodinma and his co- travelers to abandon this vile plan. ” It went on to say, The cruelty they have perpetrated against innocent Biafrans has reached a breaking point.
When peaceful Biafran agitators are detained, there is no reason for doing so when bandits and mass killers are allowed to walk the streets without restriction. ” This hatred for the innocent must end, as must the arresting and killing of innocent Biafrans under the pretext that they are ESN (Eastern Security Network) personnel.
According to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, is responsible for escalating instability in the state by taking steps that have stoked tensions between the EbubeAgu Security Network and the Nigeria Police Force.
Those words were contained in a statement made by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, who slammed Uzodinma’ s response to allegations of atrocities committed by the Ebube- Agu. The Ebubeagu activities, according to certain communities in Imo state, were responsible for forcing residents to evacuate their homes in February.
Upon being contacted to determine whether or not Ebubeagu was operating in the state, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, responded by saying, ” The Ebubeagu has not been officially launched, but they are now operating
