Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick has explained why he took off Cristiano Ronaldo in their 3-1 win at Brentford on Wednesday night..

Ronaldo, who was making his return from a hip injury, was clearly furious with the decision as he took his seat among the substitutes.

The 36-year-old made a quick remark to Rangnick before throwing his jacket to the ground.

TV cameras then caught Ronaldo complaining about the substitution decision to United’s coaching staff as he sat on the steps.

Speaking after the game, Rangnick said: “Okay, it’s normal as a striker he wants to score goals.

“He came back from a little injury, for me it’s important to bear in mind we have another game in three days’ time.

“On the other hand we were 2-0 up, the same result we had at Villa Park, and I decided to just make sure we defended that lead this time.”
