AFCON 2021: Aubameyang’s message to Gabon as he leaves camp for Arsenal
Gabon forward, Axel Meye has revealed that captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told Patrice Neveu’s men to ‘stick together’ before leaving the Gabonese camp for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon..
Aubameyang is leaving the Gabonese camp in Cameroon and is returning to Arsenal for medical checks.
The 32-year-old striker was diagnosed with heart lesions forcing him out of the ongoing 2021 AFCON.
Speaking ahead of Gabon’s final Group C fixture against Morocco tonight: Meye told CAF Online on Monday: “It was not easy for me because I missed the first game after testing positive for Covid-19.
“It was a difficult moment to digest because I wanted to contribute.
“Still, I hope to be an asset to the team. I feel better in all aspects, and I’m fit for tomorrow’s game. The absence of Aubameyang and Mario is felt, we are strong when we are together… but, it is important to put health first.
“Aubameyang has asked the team to stick together and that is what we will do.”
