Manchester United have opened talks with former Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino as the replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked earlier on Sunday..

The Red Devils’ hierarchy wants to hire Pochettino, who is Sir Alex Ferguson’s choice to take over Old Trafford, talkSPORT reports.

Former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane had before appeared as the number one target for the vacant job at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer was shown the Old Trafford’s exit door on Sunday following an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Watford on Saturday.

The club hierarchy has called on assistant manager, Michael Carrick to step up on caretaker capacity and the former midfielder may be in place until the end of the season.

The hierarchy at Old Trafford now feels they can bring former Tottenham manager Pochettino in as a long-term solution next summer.

According to talkSPORT, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson is leading the charge to bring Pochettino to Old Trafford and the club has already held talks with the Argentine’s advisors.

Pochettino left Tottenham in November 2019, after guiding the North London side to the Champions League final against Liverpool.

He is currently at Paris Saint-Germain, having joined the French Ligue1 giants after a year away from the game.

Pochettino’s PSG side failed to win the Ligue 1 title last season, finishing second behind Lille.
