Despite IPOB’s reversal of sit-at-home order, Anambra streets deserted
Despite the last-minute reversal of the one week sit at home protest announced by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the streets of Anambra State were deserted..
Though the state government had earlier announced a public holiday for Thursday and Friday, the holiday was not supposed to affect markets, motorists and other businesses.
Edujandon.com correspondent who moved around the streets of Awka, the state capital observed that businesses, markets and motor parks were all closed.
A resident of the area who spoke to our correspondent said the announcement of the suspension of the sit at home was late.
“They announced it late and many people did not know that it had been suspended, so they simply obeyed,” he said.
This development is coming just one day to the governorship election in the state.
Political analysts have said because of the high rate of insecurity in the state, Saturday’s election may witness voter apathy.
