Solskjaer addresses Ronaldo’s lack of pressing in Man Utd team
Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has defended Cristiano Ronaldo following criticism of the player’s performance against Leicester City..
Ronaldo has netted five goals in his first six appearances since he returned to Old Trafford this summer.
But the 36-year-old was ineffective as United lost 4-2 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Solskjaer’s men’s inability to press the opposition effectively, caused major problems during the second-half, with Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes singled out for “doing nothing” by Gary Neville on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference today, ahead of this Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atalanta, Solskjaer said: “We have got 11 players out there on the pitch and have different roles and responsibilities.
“We have a team out there that we really think is going to win that game and We didn’t against Leicester, so there is always going to be criticism.
“And Cristiano is an absolute top player, we know what he can do for us, he is doing everything he can do to help the team.”
