All 12 Super Tucano Fighter Jets Have Been Deployed To The North East To Tackle Banditry- Lai Mohammed
According to the federal government, all of the newly purchased Super Tucano fighter jets have been deployed to the North-East to battle escalating insecurity..
Terrorists from Boko Haram, who have been operating in the region, have recently surrendered in large numbers. Lai Mohammed attributed the successes the army is making to the introduction of the jets.
He made his submission on TVC’s “This Morning,” show.
“All the 12 Super Tucano fighter jets have been received, As at this morning, all the 12 were here and they have been deployed to the north-east.”
“We can see that the Tucano jets are actually a game changer. Most of the successes we have recorded in recent time is because of the acquisition of the new platforms, not limited to the super Tucano.”
Recall that the Nigerian Air Force recently received the last set of A-29 Super Tucano Turboprop aircraft from the United States.
The number of A-29 Super Tucano Turboprop aircraft received was 12\ and the aircraft arrived in the country at the Mallam Aminu Kano International airport
The A-29 Super Tucano is suitable for intermediate and advanced combat flying training, air superiority operations, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), armed killzone, counterinsurgency, and unconventional warfare.
U.S. Department of Defense officials were present at the handing over ceremony to receive the last batch of the fighter jets at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa commander, Gen. Jeff Harrigian, r said: “This ceremony symbolizes the strength of our unique partnership and underscores the value of training and working together,”
Mr Amao, an air marshal, also chipped in and noted that the Super Tucano aircraft alone cannot do the fight without the ground troops as it would take collective efforts from the army before the bandits can be defeated.
