I am disappointed, cause Villa’s goal was offside – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United fell from first to fourth in 90 minutes – the last few of which were particularly dramatic, after their unbeaten start to the season came to an end at home to Aston Villa..

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left furious after the game as he felt Villa’s late winner should have been disallowed for offside.

Kortney Hause bagged a rare goal on his first Premier League start of the season just before added time to put the visitors in front, but the defender went from hero to zero in little over two minutes after he was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the Villa area – prompting Mike Dean to point to the spot and award United a penalty.

Given Solskjaer’s pre-match public war of words with Jurgen Klopp over the amount of penalties United are awarded, it is a twist of cruel irony that his side would be awarded one so late in the day Villa would have been unable to respond – only to miss it.

However, it was Villa’s goal that angered Solskjaer after the game, as he explained: “[We are] Obviously disappointed because the goal is offside. It’s unfortunate to have that decision against you.”

The United boss did go on to address the penalty miss, criticising the conduct of the Aston Villa players before the spot-kick was taken.

“First of all the way they get round the penalty spot, get round Bruno and that, that’s not to my liking,” he said. “Bruno is usually very good in those positions and unfortunately he missed this one.”
