Lionel Messi was in demand after his highly anticipated debut for Paris Saint-Germain, with Reims goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic asking the Argentine to pose for a photo with his son.

Messi, who joined PSG on a free transfer from Barcelona this summmer, made his first appearance for the French club as he came off the bench to replace Neymar in the 66th minute.

The forward was unable to mark his debut with a goal but there was great excitement in the Stade Auguste Delaune, with home supporters giving him a rousing reception despite him lining up for the opposition.

And the excitement extended to the Reims players, with shot-stopper Rajkovic approaching Messi for a photo with his young son.

The 34-year-old obliged, holding the boy in the air while Rajkovic took the photo on his phone.

Rajkovic’s young son didn’t seem too excited himself but Messi gave a big smile for the picture..

Pochettino was full of praise for his new signing, insisting he had made a significant impact in his 24-minute cameo.

‘He was very good from the moment he entered the pitch,’ Pochettino said.

‘Every time he touched the ball, he spread calm throughout the team. It’s important even for Lionel Messi to win on his debut.

‘The welcome he got was beautiful to see and hear, not just from our fans but also from Reims. He has earned that. He can radiate an optimism and energy that everyone can feel and that can have a positive influence on the other players. He is Messi.’

While Messi was not on the scoresheet, Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe was. His two goals gave PSG a 2-0 victory and made it four wins from four games to leave them top of Ligue 1 going into the international break.

Real had a £154m bid for Mbappe rejected by PSG this week and the French club are determined to keep hold of the 22-year-old.

Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer but the club have not given up hope of convincing him to sign a new deal.
