Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande aka 9ice, 41, and Chinedu Okoli aka Flavour N’anbania, 37, are two of the greatest indigenous musicians to emerge from the 2000s era, churning out hits after hits while simultaneously taking the Yoruba (as per 9ice) and Igbo (with respect to Flavour) languages to the mainstream by means of Highlife, Pop, Afrobeat genres amidst others..

Their breakthrough songs are “Gongo Aso” (2008) and “Ashawo” (2005) for 9ice and Flavour respectively and ever since they have gone on to release groundbreaking, culture-defining and award-winning songs and albums in their own unique ways but for some reasons, Twitter users have decided to take it upon themselves to compare one to the other, using different yardstick.

Some users believe 9ice “Alapomeji” is the better and bigger artiste because not only did his debut album and debut single become a household song amongst Nigerians in the late 2000s, it went across boarders bagging him prestigious awards like the UK MOBO, MAMAs, Hip Hop Awards (now known as Headies) just to name some while other tweeps are of the opinion that Flavour is the bigger artistes judging by the fact that between 9ice and him, Mr. N’anbania is still the trendy musican, generating more streams and releasing more hit songs till date.

Others argue that there is a difference between the terms ‘bigger’ and ‘better’—saying one could be bigger and the other better— but not both while a few users champion 9ice as the bigger and better artiste yet quite a number of verdicts favour Flavour as the bigger and better musician.

These and many more reasons have summed up for a nice interesting debate on ‘9ice vs Flavour: Who is the bigger and/or better artiste’. You’d be glad to hear the opinions of Nigerians, we have Twitter to the rescue:
