It is not new for sportsmen to send messages to their fans for one reason or another. This time it’s Lionel Messi’s turn, as he sends a video message to 100-year-old Hernan, who has spent years making a note of every goal scored by Barcelona’s No.10..

Hernan’s grandson is the reason for his notoriety, recording a video on Instagram explaining his grandfather’s tradition.

Each Messi goal is recorded by hand on paper, as he notes the date, opponent and the number of goals scored by the Argentine.

Upon hearing of this story, Messi felt obliged to send the super fan a message.

“Hi Hernan! Obviously I heard your story and I think it’s crazy that you’re recording your goals like that,” Messi said in the recorded message.

“I want to send you a big hug and thank you for the work you do, for keeping track and I wish you all the best. See you soon!”
