Turkey vs Italy: Italy cruise to win after Demiral OWN GOAL in Euro 2020 opener

Italy kicked off Euro 2020 by putting Turkey to the sword, beating them 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome..

Roberto Mancini’s side dominated possession in a fast-paced start, but that failed to translate into chances against a Turkey team happy to sit in and frustrate.

Giorgio Chiellini had the best chance of the opening period, with his thundering header tipped over by Ugurcan Cakir in acrobatic fashion.

Following the break, the game followed much the same pattern and the Azzurri’s dominance finally translated into a goal when Domenico Berardi’s centre was inadvertently knocked into his own net by Merih Demiral.

The opener allowed Italy to take their game up another gear and they had countless chances in the ensuing minutes.

Ciro Immobile then all but sealed the Italian’s three points when he tapped home following a Leo Spianzzola shot.

Lorenzo Insigne continued the scoring in the closing stages with a performance that will send a statement to the other teams vying for the trophy.
