#Euro2020: Italy, Wales through to knockouts, Switzerland face nervous wait
Wales have qualified for the Euro 2020 knockout stages, despite losing 1-0 to Italy on Sunday..
The result means Wales finished in second place in Group A.
Ethan Ampadu’s straight red card in the 55th minute had sparked fears that Switzerland, which beat Turkey 3-1 – could come up with the goal difference swing they needed to send Wales into the uncertainty of a third-place qualifying spot.
But Rob Page’s side battled hard to keep the scoreline low.
They will now set up a knockout clash with the runners-up of Group B next Saturday.
Matteo Pessina had given Italy a deserved lead just before the break and Federico Bernardeschi hit the woodwork with a free-kick, as the co-hosts showed their strength in depth.
Gareth Bale should have claimed a point late on but he volleyed over wildly
