It’s well known that a good run in the Champions League can be extremely lucrative for the clubs involved..

Manchester City and Chelsea are set to go head to head this Saturday evening for European football’s biggest prize, but just how much are you set to cash in on if you go all the way and lift the coveted trophy?

Whichever side comes out on top in the final is Porto is set to pocket 19 million euros in prize money, with the runners-up receiving 15 million euros.

The overall figure that the winning side makes from the competition throughout the whole season is far higher than this figure, however, as a significant amount of money is earned at every stage.

A victory in the group stages is worth 2.7 million euros, with a draw making you 900,000.

Over 80 million euros at play
Any team that wins all of their group-stage matches and then goes on to win the entire competition would receive a whopping 82.45 million euros.

Manchester City have accumulated more than 60 million euros this campaign, with five victories and a draw in the group stage, and Chelsea have received just under 60 million euros after their four wins and two draws.

The prize money pot is set to increase next season, despite the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the return of fans to stadiums will also give clubs another boost through gate receipts.
