Buhari Is Not Ruling Nigeria, Ex-President Jonathan Declares, Reveals People in Charge (Details below)
Former Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan, has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari is not the man running Nigeria, rather he is just one man in Abuja.
In addition to this, Jonathan named Governors as the group who actually run the country, saying it’s the States Nigerians rely on.
He therefore urged governors to meet under the banner of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, to dialogue on issues affecting the country.
The former president who is rumoured to be eyeing another shot at the presidency stated this while addressing newsmen in Benin on Sunday during the 50th birthday celebration of Charles Osazuwa, president of the Rock of Ages Christian Assembly.
According to Jonathan, the coming together of all the governors in a round table to discuss and proffer solutions to issues affecting Nigeria would help the president who relies on briefings from across the states.
“Governors themselves should continue to meet, I don’t really love a situation where the northern governors will meet then the southern governors will cry foul,” Jonathan said.
“Then the southern governors will meet then the northern governors will cry foul, that will not help our country.
“The governors through the governors forum should meet, they are the people who run this country, the president is just one person in Abuja.
“The states, especially in a country where the local governments are very weak, it’s the states that people fall back to.
“So if the governors of the states meet and dialogue, interrogate things that are good for this country, then we will move forward.
“I don’t really enjoy the antagonism between governors, they should come together and discuss.
If there are issues that are affecting one or two states, I think the governors should see how they can collectively come with a way to address those issues,” he added.
Mr. Jonathan also noted that while he was in office he never used his position to punish people.
Recall that Jonathan was once the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, and then later governed the state and from there became Vice-President before he emerged president of Nigeria.
The former President said while in politics, he had a conviction to never cause the death of anyone.
“My belief, particularly when I joined politics is not to use a temporary privilege, a temporary position God has given to me to punish people,” he said.
“Some of the things I did while in office to which people still refer was based on the conviction not to use my position to cause the death of anybody.
“Any position I have occupied by divine providence should not be used to create hardship for other people.”
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has blamed the insecurity challenges bedevilling the country on previous democratically-elected presidents and military heads of state.
He said, “When people talk about the recent insecurity in our country, I keep saying that the insecurity did not just develop overnight,” Mr Umahi told Channels TV. “It has been a result of the failure of our past leaders to address the future of our youths. And this is the truth.”
He added, “So it’s not a question of blaming Mr President or blaming governors or blaming APC or PDP. It is systematic, and it has been there for a very long time.”
Governor Umahi also indicated that the administrations of then-military heads of state of Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari were architects of the current national disaster.
His statement also blamed former Presidents Umar Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan for the wanton violence plaguing the country.
On a way out, Umahi said, “I think that we must deploy sincerity in our approach. We must deploy consultation, wisdom and prayers,” Mr Umahi said. “If all these are put together, I am sure that the insecurity in the country will be a thing of the past.”
