Dean Henderson ‘takes over’ as Man United’s No.1 goalkeeper from De Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, has now “taken over” from David de Gea as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper.

This claim was made by Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes..

Scholes said this after Henderson kept a clean sheet in Man United’s 1-0 win against AC Milan in the Europa League round of 16 second-leg tie at San Siro on Thursday.

Henderson was impressive for the Red Devils against AC Milan as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men qualified for the last-8, thanks to Paul Pogba’s goal.

The 24-year-old, who was called into action a couple of times, made one vital stop from AC Milan substitute Zlatan Ibrahimovic late in the encounter.

When asked who is the club’s No. 1 keeper between Henderson and De Gea, Scholes told BT Sport: “I think it’s Henderson now. He’s taken over.

“I thought David had been lucky after the Everton game (in February) to keep his place. There were a couple of mistakes there. A few things before and after that – not glaring mistakes – but I feel more confident with Henderson in there. I’m a little more relaxed.

‘I’m not having a go at David. He’s been a brilliant goalkeeper and could still be if Dean doesn’t take his chance. But the time has come to give him (Henderson) a run in the team.

“He’s been picked in the England squad, he should be number one for England as well. He was really calm tonight and did what he did, which was safe.”
