Osonwa Okey Noberts was found trading nearly 6kg drugs to Chinese drug dealers at his apartment in Baiyun District of Guangzhou from February 2008 to April 2008. It was reported that Osonwa Okey Noberts took the drugs from suppliers and sold them to buyers in China which amounted to 5, 978. 1 grams of heroin and according to statement by the Intermediate People’ s Court of Dongguan, Osonwa Okey Noberts deserves the most severe punishment and that was why he was sentenced to death.

His accomplice, Zhang Dongxiang, a Chinese lady who is the girlfriend of Osonwa Okey Noberts also received a death sentence with a 2- year reprieve for assisting him in his illegal trade. Osonwa Okey Noberts and Zhang Dongxiang lived together starting from July 2007 and six months into their relationship, she discovered that her Nigerian boyfriend was into drug trafficking and this made her to park out of his apartment and rented her own next to her boyfriends so as to facilitate the trading process and also provide necessary assistance and help.

This decision that was taken is inline with China’ s criminal law on drug trafficking, which states that trafficking more than 50grams of heroin can warrant a death penalty.
