Sometimes in 2018 a news struck the media that a Malawian woman got married to her own son, here are photos of the woman in that story. In many reports she was identify by her name as “Memory Njemani”. Njemani is a citizen of Malawi.

Not only her fellow Malawians that rage over her action, her actions was a topic of debate in many African countries particularly Nigeria. It was beyond human imagination that mother married her own son. It’s rare and weird as far as African culture and tradition is concerned, it’s unfound anywhere that African culture permits child marriage. Perhaps, they say, “nothing is new under the sun”. However, some strange practices still happen today in our society that leave many people shocking state.


The woman identified as “Memory Njemani”, Who is 49 years of age said she had work so hard to trained her child and cannot allow another woman to enjoy the fruit she had laboured for. She equally believe that she and her son worked for it and that they will also enjoy it together.

When Mrs “Njemani” respond to questions on why she choose to trade such path, she said “I’m marrying my son so that I don’t empower other women who have been aborting”. “I invested a lot of money in the education of my son. Why should another woman be married to him and enjoy the hard work I invested in him? That will not happen. I’m marrying my son so that we don’t empower other women who have been aborting ” she said.

The Malawian mother married to her 30years old son at the age of 47. It was reported that Mrs “Njemani” single handedly sponsored her son until he reach the height where she decided to marry him.

Many people have describe the act of “Memory Njemani” as an ungodly act and very selfish too. To some it’s a taboo to marry one’s born, they ask does she share such feelings with the young boy.

The people’s conception about “Njemani” doesn’t bother her, to her she is only reaping the fruit she have sow.
