Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on his relationship with Barcelona icon, Lionel Messi – revealing that he always got on well with the Argentinian and never saw him a rival after firing Bianconeri to a 3-0 win over the Catalan giants in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Ronaldo scored a brace on the night, both of it coming from the penalty spot as he ensured that the Bianconeri ended Barcelona’s 38-game unbeaten run at the Camp Nou in Europe. The win for Juventus meant that they now progress to the knockout stages as Group G winners with Barcelona following them as runners-up.

This was the first meeting between the two superstars since Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Turin in 2018 and now he has opened up on the relationship with his fellow striker.

“I have always had a cordial relationship with Messi. As I have said before, for 12, 13, 14 years [I have been] sharing prizes with him. I never saw him as a rival. He always tried the best for his team and I tried the best for mine. I always got on well with him. I am sure he will say the same if you ask him,” he said post the game.

“But we know in football people always look for a rivalry to create more excitement.”

The duo are widely considered as two of the greatest players in the history of the sport, dominating football for more than a decade as seen by the combined 11 Ballon d’Or awards they have won between themselves.
