Meet 14 Year Old Girl A Pr0stitute Who is HIV positive At Her Age (Details below)
At the age of 14 years, Natasha* was already indulging in all sorts of drugs and before she knew it, she had become a pr0stitute in Mathare slums, Nairobi.
However, she did not get into this voluntarily, she lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS when she was a little girl.
Through her life in Mathare, she decided to indulge in alcohol and it later became the norm.
But alcohol doesn’t come cheap and for a girl of her age, she had no job. She would become a s3x worker and soon enough started indulging in bhang.
“I started by smoking marijuana,” she told DW.
“That’s when I started knowing about these things. The day I started drinking alcohol was the day that I started pr0stitution.” Her clients are men who live in Nairobi and the surrounding areas.
Sadly, she now has HIV which she contracted from one of her clients and it has been hard for her.
Her aunt who was the sole guardian made effort to take her to a rehabilitation centre but she is so much hooked into pr0stitution that she keeps going back.
“I have tried rehabilitating her but she always goes back to prostitution,” her aunt said adding “I think that is because she is a drug addict. Also her peers, her only friends, are pr0stitutes.”
But Natasha is not worried at all. She has already accepted that pr0stitution and drugs are part of her life.
“This is my life and I have accepted it the way it is. I dropped out of school so there is nothing else. I am not looking for any help – that is what my guardian doesn’t understand.”
Agnes – a former s3x worker told DW how the business of child pr0stitution works.
“Most of them come to me when they are around 12,13, or 14 years of age. If they earn around 5,000 Kenyan shillings, I take around 1,000 shillings,” she told DW.
“When they come to me, I never turn them away. I stay with them.”
