BREAKING: Nigeria records 226 new COVID-19 cases, total now 6,401

Confirmed cases of coronavirus have increased to 6,401 in Nigeria, Edujandon.com reports.

This is after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced 226 new cases on Tuesday.

While making the announcement via its Twitter handle, the NCDC also said COVID-19 fatalities have increased to 192 after one patient died in Edo State.

Edujandon.com reports that no fewer than 90 people recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours.




NCDC said, “On the 19th of May 2020, 226 new confirmed cases and 1 death was recorded in Nigeria.



“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 6401 cases have been confirmed, 1,734 cases have been discharged and 192 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 226 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos (131), Ogun (25), Plateau (15), Edo (11), Kaduna (7), Oyo (6), FCT (5), Adamawa (5), Jigawa (4), Ebonyi (4), Borno (4), Nasarawa (3), Bauchi (2), Gombe (2), Enugu (1), Bayelsa (1).”


A breakdown of the data obtained from the NCDC’s website showed that of the 192 COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria, 38 were recorded in Lagos, Kano, 36; FCT, nine; Katsina, 13; Borno, 24; Bauchi five; Jigawa three, Ogun six; Kaduna, three; Oyo, four; Gombe, two; Sokoto, 13; Edo, six; Zamfara, five; Kwara, one; Rivers, three; Osun, four; Plateau, one; Kebbi, four; Yobe, one; Nasarawa, one; Delta, five; Niger, one; Ondo, one; Ekiti, one, and Akwa Ibom also has two deaths.

The data also showed that of 11.50 pm on May 19, Nigeria has 4,475 active COVID-19 cases.
