President Muhammadu Buhari has come under attack over his speech at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA74).

During an interactive session at the event being held in New York, the Nigerian leader was asked to talk about his plans for the future of Nigeria’s young population, but the President shocked the audience when he responded with a speech about climate change.
Buhari had in response to the question said, ”Your excellencies, Ladies, and gentlemen. I share your sentiments addressed by the Secretary Gen, that the world is on the verge of calamity and catastrophe. Undeniably Climate change is a human-induced phenomenon. It is now imperative that we must step up our collective climate actions in line with the request of the Secretary Gen. It is in this regard that I wish to retract Nigeria’s commitment to its obligations under the various agreements, the aspirations enshrining our national timely contribution and ensure resilient future that may stream climate risk is our decision making.

”I want to announce that the government of Nigeria will develop a more robust sectoral action plan and expand the scope of our sovereign green bonds in line with our intended upward review of Nigerians NDC towards the inclusion of the water in rail station by 2020. We will take concrete steps to harness climate innovative ideas by including youths in decision making the decision process as part of our overall climate governance architecture. We will mobilize Nigerian youth towards 2020 million tricks to enhance Nigerian carbon zinc.”

But, Buhari’s response did not go down well with some social media users as some Nigerians said they are not surprised because there is a claim that the President has ”no WAEC certificate.”

Here are some comments Edujandon.com gathered:

@renoomokri, ”Watch this video of General @MBuhari at the @UN and pray for him. The lady asked him what pathway Nigeria has for a resilient future for her young population and General Buhari answered something completely different about CLIMATE CHANGE!

@gimbakakanda, ”God, no! This is painful to watch. The question wasn’t about climate change. He was asked about the place of the youth in Nigeria’s future, and, unfortunately, he read out an unrelated script as a response. You, the President’s media handlers, are his biggest undoing.”

@EssangRolland, ”If he had even rehearsed the script that was given to him earlier before that Q & A session, by the time that lady threw that question at him, he would have known that the question had nothing to do with d script in his hand, but since he’s the olodo that he is, he did his thing.”

@Aniestility, ”I don’t get why you guys are surprised, someone has a WAEC sworn affidavit and you expect a miracle?
You can’t expect him to be smarter than this sadly

@Afoontrack “Nigeria has a young population , perhaps you may highlight what the pathway to a resilient future looks like? President reads out the script on climate change. Abeg who do us like this?

@EmexOD, ”No connection between the question and the answer or did I miss anything.”

Ohluwasheyeoke, ”If he didn’t get the question he could have told her to repeat herself. But yet again, even if he got the question what would he have said?”

mmekid_mfon, ”It’s interesting that you Tolu proudly posted this. That the President was asked question A and he was just thoroughly reading out scripted answers for question Q. Shame.”

@simplyfranklyn_, ”It is a shame that a country populated with some many educated folks would be gullible enough to allow a stark illiterate to lead them. My sympathies are hereby conveyed to the Nigeria populace. A scarecrow leads them!’
